Open Internships

The RReNEW Collective is looking for interns to fill two specific positions, described in detail below. These positions are:

·    Community Outreach Coordinator, to extend our network of mutual support with local organizations and further develop our capacity to train and place interns.
·    House Sustainability Intern, 
to improve the livability and sustainability of the RReNEW house and garden.

In addition to these two defined positions, RReNEW and our partner organizations are always looking for short and long-term interns interested in one or many of the following project areas:
·    Water monitoring and Citizen Enforcement
·    Cultural History and Cemetery Registration and Preservation
·    Youth Organizing
·    Sustainable Economics on a Community-Scale
·    Dust and Health Issues
·    Fundraising and/or Communications
·    Media and Social Networking

All Interns with the RReNEW Collective and ally groups may live at the RReNEW house while working with us. While staying at RReNEW, you will be provided free housing (no rent or utility bills). RReNEW only requires 20-30 hrs/week for this internship to allow part time employment in the area if you so choose. We also have other recommendations for how to live off a limited budget if you are interested.

The RReNEW Collective Seeks COMMUNITY OUTREACH COORDINATOR

The RRENEW Collective is seeking an intern to fulfill a part-time position (20-30 hrs/week) to develop new regional partners between RRENEW and other justice-focused organizations in the local area. This is a long term position. We prefer someone who can commit to at least 12 months, ideally 18 – 24 months. The start date for the position is ideally as soon as filled, although we are flexible.

This position is central to fulfilling (the latter part of) RReNEW’s mission and vision of sourcing, training, and placing volunteers with local organizations working for social change in Appalachia.  We as a collective are excited to work closely with whoever fills this exciting position. Furthermore, in recognition of the pivotal role this internship plays in furthering our mission as well as the time commitment we require, we have secured funding in the form of a stipend, which will be discussed in an interview with selected candidates.

The core focus areas of the internship descend in order of importance below:

  • Build partnerships with other organizations in the area that focus on social justice and environmental justice efforts locally
    • Partner, sponsor, and/or facilitate events with these organizations
    • Support and organize sustainability-focused events.
    • Develop potential internships and other long-term projects with these organizations
    • Develop a timeline and strategic plan that includes achievable goals.
  • Serve as a liaison to Mountain Justice by attending monthly meetings and keeping track of conversations on the MJ listserv
  • Play a large role in selecting interns to fill newly developed internships at partner organizations
  • All RReNEW Collective interns contribute to fundraising to some degree and to the development of 1, 2 and 5 year strategic plans for the organization.

* Interns share the responsibility of running an activist collective and campaign house.

Preferable Skills:

Community organizing experience

Plays well with others (housemates and pets)/Exhibits good co-habitation skills

Self management/time management skills

Vehicle and driver’s license

The RReNEW Collective seeks HOUSE SUSTAINABILITY INTERN

The RReNEW Collective is seeking an intern to fulfill a part-time position (approx. 20-30 hrs/week) to improve the livability and sustainability of the RReNEW house and gardens. This is a medium term position. We will prioritize applicants who can commit a minimum of 3 months for this position, and who exhibit a proficiency of the skills needed for this position. The core focus areas of the internship descend in order of importance below:

•        Develop & Execute a Strategic Plan for Home Repair & Sustainability

  • Prioritize Critical Repairs
  • Plan to Accomplish 3 Specific Home Projects
  • Increase Energy Efficiency & Weatherization

•        Develop New & Existing Sustainable Living Systems

•         Maintain a Welcoming, Hostel-Type Environment for Visitors

•         Organize Work Days and Coordinate House Needs for Large Events

•         Help to Cultivate the Henry St. & Clover Pl. Gardens

•         Post Events and Updates to the Mountain Community Calendar

•         Interns share the responsibility of running an activist collective and campaign house.

Preferred Skills:

Home Repair (carpentry, plumbing, electrical, etc)

Gardening

Small-Scale Sustainable Systems

Co-Habitation experience (with People and Pets)

Time Management & Self-Direction
